Truthbrush

17th May 2020

There is so much information about how we all need to making changes to help the planet, but doesn’t it all feel a little overwhelming? We have been living our lives this way for a long time now, its hard to just make a load of changes overnight and expect us to stick to them all at once, right? Also, unless something is being advertised to us on Instagram, where do I find these eco companies?

This is where we had the idea of swapping one thing per month, letting us get used to this swap before taking the plunge to swapping something else. Before you know it its 2021 and you’ve made 12 swaps, 12 steps towards helping the planet. Head here to see the whole series.

We are teaming up with 12 companies to bring you the perfect solution to a swap each month, wherever possible we are supporting small businesses who are making a difference towards our planet, and we want you to support them too. For full disclosure these items have been gifted to us but I wouldn't be sharing if I wasn't using them every day.

This month we are talking staying on a bathroom theme and talking toothbrushes, or more specifically Truthbrush.

Firstly lets talk plastic again, this time lets talk toothbrushes, over a billion toothbrushes are thrown away every year, a billion, I find this so hard to put into perspective. Let’s say we all change our toothbrushes every 3 months like we are advised to, lets say I got my first when I was two? This is already 112 and I’m only 30, they take 400 years to decompose and they aren’t even recyclable…  let’s say we all live to an average age of 81, that’s 316 toothbrushes still here in 2471… if we do this for all of out 5k followers, that’s 1,580,000… Can we just take a moment to think about this number?

This is why swapping to a bamboo toothbrush or a long term toothbrush is possibly one of the most important swaps we can all very easily make.

Yet they are not all made equal… I have tried so many! They are all too wooden and rough for someone who thinks wooden spoons are the equivalent to nails down a chalk board *goosebumps*, this is where Truthbrush comes in.

They were born from a wish for a toothbrush that was beautiful and luxurious as well as biodegradable. The rounded ergonomic handle is crafted from sustainable, organic bamboo which is naturally anti bacterial, the brushes come with soft (as recommended by dentists) or medium bristles, which are castor oil based to care for your teeth and gums.

Each Truthbrush is hand wrapped in tissue paper and a recyclable cardboard pillow pack. Shipping to them and to you, is carbon neutral to minimise environmental impact. Truthbrush is cruelty free and vegan. Plus they have received the first prize at both the Eco Excellence and Veggie Awards, as voted for by celebrity judges!

I love how they come in an option of colours which makes it super easy to tell whose is whose, plus there is an option for a subscription service, meaning you’ll never run out… as always, don’t just take my word for it, here’s one of their reviews:

"We would like to let you know how much we love your Truthbrush.

We have tried almost all the non plastic brushes on the market and yours is the best. The bristles do last much longer and are just really nice to brush with. I have recommended them to everyone.

The Truthbrush is the only brush! I’d wear the T-shirt if you had them."

You can purchase a Truthbrush here, trust me, you won’t be disappointed… I wont be going back!
